SPEC welcome new students (8/15/05)
SPEC recently welcomed six new graduate students to join SPEC. This brought the total SPEC students to 31.
Dr. Zhong Du joins SPEC (8/1//05)
SPEC is please to announce that Dr. Zhong Du joins SPEC as a research assistant professor. Dr. Zu obtained his Ph.D. recently from University of Tennessee. His Ph.D. dissertation is on multilevel voltage source converter and active harmonic elimination. His addition will significantly enhance SPEC's capability in conducting power electronics research.
SPEC collaborates with Cree to develop SiC power switches (6/23/05)
SPEC has recently been awarded a sub-contract by Cree Inc., the leader in silicon carbide material and power devices, to work with Cree in the development of high temperature bipolar junction devices based on SiC material.
Dr. Subhashish Bhattacharya joins SPEC (6/23/05)
SPEC is please to announce that Dr. Subhashish Bhattacharya, currently with Siemens's FACTS group, will join SPEC as an assistant professor in August 2005. Dr. Bhattacharya is well known in the FACTS user community, and has many years of experience in real world FACTS. His addition will significantly enhance SPEC's capability in conducting FACTS and utility related power electronics research.
SPEC successfully held its first Open House and Power Management Seminar (4/22/05)
SPEC Annual Open House and Power Management Seminar was successfully held on April 22, 2005 at the Centennial Campus, North Carolina State University. More than 25 industry participants attended the seminar event in the morning. The afternoon event centered around lab tour and poster sessions. For companies who did not come on April 22, a DVD version of the seminar presentation is available. Please contact SPEC.
SPEC student participate in International Exposition (4/18/05)
SPEC student Bin Chen will participate in the NCSU International Exposition to be held on Monday, 18 April, from 1 to 4 pm, in Talley Student Center Ballroom and Galleries. The exposition will include a Research Expo, International Tea, International Dance and Study Abroad Photography Contest Display. Detail.
SPEC to host EPRI Power Electronics Task Force Meeting
SPEC will be hosting the EPRI Power Electronics Task Force Meeting on March 17 and 18, at the Centennial Campus, North Carolina State University.
SPEC to hold Annual Open House and Power Management Seminar
SPEC Annual Open House and Power Management Seminar will be held in on April 22, 2005 at the Centennial Campus, North Carolina State University. The event will provide visitors and industry representatives the opportunity to learn the Center's research in the form of oral presentation. Additionally, you will have opportunity to visit the SPEC laboratory during the lab tour poster session and interact with graduate students. This event is free to all visitors and lunch will be provided by the center.

Posdoctoral job position at SPEC (this position has been filled)
The Department of Electrical and and Computer Engineering at North Carolina State University is seeking highly motivated individuals with a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering to fill postdoctoral positions available in the ECE Department's Semiconductor Power Electronics Center at NC State University. Candidates will be responsible for leading a group of graduate students to conduct contract research on high-power electronics, including research on high power semiconductor devices, modeling and control of power converters, FACTS devices and motor drive systems.
